[00:00:00] Speaker A: Thunder on the turf hear the crowd ignite perk Bears charging in red and black tonight from the try line battles to the lead wide stats we break it down, we bring it home these are the bare facts per pride Game on, let's attack this is the Bear Fact.
Hey, we are roaring with the Bears and a real story shaking up the air Big hits, big hearts, never looking back Tune it in, get the bed Game on, let's attack this is the Bear.
[00:00:41] Speaker B: Hey, Grizzlies, welcome back to the Bear Facts. And tonight we are celebrating because we've officially cracked the 19, 000 views on YouTube. That's right, 19, 000 people have willingly watched this circus, which honestly raises more questions than answers, but we'll take it. Producer Paul's kicking back tonight, sipping wine and demolishing cheese and crackers, while Toddy and Johnny are just plain old crackers. Paul's also been sending out footballs to the boys. Johnny's already claimed he's like it's a family heirloom. Todd's probably trying to autograph his own. And Rosie will get her balls as soon as we lock in a date for the video shoot. She's already buzzing anyway because the Rubies cheerleaders trials kick off this month and she's counting down like it's Christmas. Big energy, big laughs and big Bears vibes coming your way. Let's get into it. Here's Ro.
[00:01:29] Speaker C: Thank you, Paul. Yes, I am very, very excited for the cheerleading to start next month. April 13th is the first day, but let's get started with some reminders. So just a reminder to follow our Instagram, YouTube and Facebook, the Bearfax.
And also just to send in any photos of you in some Perth Bear jerseys, black and red, to be featured on our stream.
And also send in any questions you have. We'll try and answer them throughout the stream, but mainly at the end of the stream. And the best question gets a free rugby ball with our podcast on it. And there are two sizes. There's a regular large rugby ball and then a small little one for kids or even like your dog or something.
So send in your questions, but let's firstly get Johnny on and say our hellos.
Hey, Johnny, how are you today?
[00:02:28] Speaker D: Good, thank you. How are you doing?
[00:02:30] Speaker C: Good. How's the weather over there? There's a bit of a change here in Perth. It's getting a bit chilly now, so
[00:02:37] Speaker D: definitely, yeah, ditto here in Queensland. I finally was able to grab the old jerseys, the old cotton thick jerseys and, and wear them for the first time this year and no doubt you'll be seeing me plenty wearing the old North Sydney and future Perth Bears merchandise moving forward.
[00:02:55] Speaker C: Yeah, you're gonna wear them out and about.
[00:02:59] Speaker D: That's all I wear out and about. I got no other clothes selection. Just. Just Bears jerseys. Perfect.
[00:03:07] Speaker C: Let's get Todd on as well and say hi, Todd, how are you?
[00:03:12] Speaker E: Hey. Hello. How are you?
[00:03:14] Speaker C: Good, how are you?
So any more Bears merch came into your house more?
[00:03:21] Speaker E: Yeah, I got the. I'm actually wearing this year's New South Wales North Sydney Bears away jersey. So I've got that on today and on this side it has the Perf Bears logo on it.
[00:03:40] Speaker C: Yes.
[00:03:40] Speaker E: So that's good.
So. Yeah, so, yeah, so I like his jersey. It's pretty good comfortable.
Yeah, I try to wear a different one every week and different hat every week. So.
[00:03:54] Speaker C: Yeah, gave a Bears change it up a bit. I still need to get some merch.
I think I'll go shopping when they open their merch store at Optus. The double header.
So I'll definitely wait.
[00:04:10] Speaker E: Two weeks away. That is, isn't it?
[00:04:12] Speaker C: Yeah, I think so. It's April 11th, so, yeah, weeks to it. Very close. Yeah.
Let's get started with today's episode. Right.
[00:04:23] Speaker D: Yep. Here come the Bears. So first up, guys, how did we all go in the round of upsets with tipping?
[00:04:34] Speaker C: Not the best. Not my best week. I was more shocked with who won and who lost.
So I got three out of my eight this week.
[00:04:44] Speaker E: Yeah, I'm getting worse.
I got three this week like you, Rosie. So, yeah, I don't know.
Who'd I get but one.
[00:05:00] Speaker C: Yeah, I got.
[00:05:01] Speaker E: What did I get? I got Roosters up, I got Panthers up and I got the Titans up. That was it.
[00:05:12] Speaker C: I was everything except for Bronco. I got Broncos, Broncos, Roosters and Panthers.
[00:05:18] Speaker D: Nice.
[00:05:18] Speaker C: Yeah. How about you, Johnny?
[00:05:21] Speaker D: I got four, so.
Which was from memory. It was manly.
That's what I put in espn. Tipping up. Anyway, Manly, Panthers, Titans.
And I think the other one might have been Sharks. I think it was sharks. So. Yeah, that's it.
Yeah.
[00:05:50] Speaker C: Yeah, it was crazy. But I'll let you guys get deeper into what happened this round.
[00:05:58] Speaker D: Yep, no worries. Thank Rony. Okay, so, yeah, Toddy, the bare facts here we come. Round four, as we discussed, was a round of upsets.
A couple of results just seemingly came out of absolute nowhere.
And the season is well and truly underway. Everyone's got a chance of beating anyone on their given day. Unless you're Panthers, then you're just playing A whole different sport at the moment. But tell us. Go through the results, mate. Tell us the results and then after that we'll go to who impressed us the most and who was the most rancid.
[00:06:37] Speaker E: Okay, results.
I'll do home team first. So Manly. They went down to the Roosters 33 to 16.
Then it was the Tigers over Warriors 32 to 14.
The Broncos got up in a good game. I like this game. It was over dolphins 26 to 12. A battle of Brisbane.
The Knights got up against the Bulldogs 32 16.
The Panthers just striving a head showing their dominance this year.
They got up 48 to 20 over Parramatta.
The Storm went down to the Cowboys 28 to 24.
The Sharks got up over Raiders 34 to 22.
And the Titans in the worst game around in my opinion, got up over dragons 22 to 14.
[00:07:33] Speaker D: So a couple of scores there that just sort of would have made the bookmakers very happy. They would have racked in the money, that's for sure. Because there would have been long odds.
What team impressed you the most this round?
[00:07:47] Speaker E: Mate, I'd have to say you can't go past Penrith. But the Broncos also stepped up. I thought this round as well they showed they haven't lost that touch.
And yeah, they are impressive.
I know the Tigers, they're sort of looking like that team. I don't. You know, they might challenge for a top eight but yeah, they're just exciting to watch. They are. They take after their coach. I think so.
[00:08:16] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:08:17] Speaker E: Yeah, they're getting it together and yeah, that's about it. I think yourself, Johnny.
[00:08:24] Speaker D: Yeah. Hard to put a passer. Panthers as the best team of the round.
Clinical.
They kind of put the queue back in the rack in that second half. It was very stop start and I reckon they would have been absolutely filthy that they conceded 20 points. Points, four tries. I reckon that's.
They would have taken that away more than scoring 48. They're just that sort of team.
Tigers were good. Like you said, it's not easy to go over to New Zealand and give them a good old.
Wasn't a shellacking, but it was. It was a good. It was a good belting. They beat up their forward. So I never thought the Tigers forwards would beat up the warriors forwards in this current squad versus squad. But they did that without Lui. And Dewey looked gone, man. Last week Dewey was like, you know, hamming off the bone. So he came back and played.
Yeah, yeah, a bit of. Bit of wolverine healing factor there.
Jock Madden. Look you can tell Jock Madden got plenty of quality reps when he was at the Broncos in those squads because he came back and just did his thing.
And then I guess the other sides, that impressed me. The Knights really impressed me. They're really composed.
I thought the whistle was going to go all the way of the Dogs in that second half and the game was just gonna swing momentum towards the Dogs and the Knights wouldn't be able to contain them. But they did. They did. And Dom Young got a hat trick and then the Cowboys did what the Cowboys do once or twice a year. They'll pull out a massive upset just because they outscore the opposition in a shootout. So they, they were the most impressive teams.
Mate, who was the worst team? I dare say we have the same line here.
[00:10:17] Speaker E: Yeah, I can't go past the Dragons against, you know, Titans. That game just never got going to tell you the truth. Like just.
I watched Andrew Voss today. He just said it was a sort of game but started off not too bad. Just got worse and worse by the end and I agree with him. It was, it was terrible. Like you know.
[00:10:42] Speaker D: Yeah, yeah, I agree.
[00:10:46] Speaker E: Their attacks just side to side, it's just no one hitting that line. And going forward it was just wful. And you know, I know they lost Kyle Flanagan but it was happening before he got injured as well.
[00:11:00] Speaker D: So yeah, 100% and, and all the best to Kyle. That was a real sickening concussion. Not knocked out. It didn't look good at all. He wasn't moving for. For a few seconds there. So all the best on his recovery. I did say he'll be out for a few weeks.
Unfortunately they were the worst team performance of the week.
In saying that the Titans have been involved in some of the worst games I've seen in the last half decade. I remember a game they played against the Tigers maybe two or three years ago where it was like 8:2 or 8:3. It was a real random scoreline and not. And. And it was only because AJ Brimson's got a try in like the 77th minute or something that. Do you remember that game?
[00:11:45] Speaker E: I remember it and I never stayed to the end. I think I got to half time and it's of the only times I think I've walked away from a game. Like I think I remember Switch. When you brought it up I just smiled to myself cuz I thought I know this game and I did. I think it was a Thursday night game or you know, I'm pretty sure or Friday even.
[00:12:05] Speaker D: Yeah,
[00:12:07] Speaker E: I just remember going to bed. I just thought, no, I can't put myself through this.
Could have put Max on or something.
[00:12:15] Speaker D: Yeah, yeah, yeah. So. And the best game, I think of the round was the Raider Sharks. That was pretty enthralling.
It looked like anyone could win at any moment there, especially towards the last 10 minutes. And kudos to the Sharks for hanging on and putting on those last couple of tries to pull away. But how exciting.
And you can see where both teams are at. Like they had real exciting passages of play where they pulled something from absolutely nothing. Like shout out to that Xavier Savage try where he like stepped in midair and beat three guys in like a meter space. That was ridiculous. Like, I haven't seen that in years.
But then he comes up with some clangers and poor defensive reads and the Sharks get a couple of tries and ultimately win the game. Which, you know, old saying is, yeah, cool, you can score them, but you also need to defend them. So that was an exciting game, mate.
Couple of takeaways this week.
First and foremost, there's a few heavy topics we want to. We want to cover. We. We were going to cover one later, but we'll probably cover them both now if that's okay.
So Tui Cami Kamika, all the best on your recovery.
That would have been scary for everyone involved, especially him going through that.
He's an awesome player. I've always liked Tui and just all the best mate.
Speedy recovery.
Just unfortunate rotten luck. The Stormer having maybe in the last four months just players getting injuries that aren't really anything to do with them or. Or just health issues in general. So all the best to Tui Kamikamika. And the other one is real heavy is Noah Johansson, the young Bears player who came through the Western Suburbs Magpies, um, system. He joined the Bears this off season. I believe he passed away late last week.
And our condolences go to his family and your thoughts and prayers are with you.
And once a Bear, always a bear. So no, I will always have a place in all us Bears fans hearts and we'll always remember his name. Once again, condolences to his family and friends.
Moving on, mate.
A couple of bits came out this week. North Sydney Bears had their AGM meeting last week and a few things were spoken about or touched on that sort of have filtered through the channels.
So looks like all us east coast Bears fans, there's going to be membership packages or away membership packages. We're not sure how that's going to look like at the moment or how it's going to be structured but we're real excited and enthusiastic to see how it comes out. I'm hoping that it's potentially for example a Southeast Queensland one where you get the three games so that's if the Bears played in Southeast Queensland three times that year. Of course I did say they will with magic round so that would be to go see them against Broncos, Titans and Dolphins so be two part passages to sunk up and one two Seabass also with the Sydney based I hope it can be multi. Tiered. I don't know if it's going to go through the away team or the home teams I should say or if it's going to go through the stadiums themselves because you can get membership through stadium so hopefully there's like a four game package and a six game package and a I guess an 11 game package to go to all the away games. I don't know how feasible that is or how it's going to look but just keep tuning into perthbears.com go there. I'm sure more news will be released on that in the coming in the coming weeks and months.
How do you feel about that Todd? And if if you had the opportunity to get these Sydney based away memberships how many games do you reckon you would get to
[00:16:45] Speaker E: have to go through the boss first and ask her but she's pretty. She lets me go to a few games. She does so I'd probably look at you know four games, five games possibly.
You know of course you know I'd go you know I've got a few games circled I wouldn't mind seeing next year. You know like I want, I want to go to the first game obviously that the Bears play in Wall hopefully. You know this was discussed I heard and brought up at the AGM and they did sort of discuss about the what I actually brought up last week, the two games in Perth for two games in Sydney, you know and I, I think they'll sell out if they do that like first game at Optus, second game HBF park, third game in Sydney somewhere against Manly maybe Central Coast Stadium.
I think they'll sell the first three games out to tell you the truth.
[00:17:40] Speaker D: I agree and that and shout out to you that's a great idea. I didn't even had like I thought about the blocks previously but but the way you you said it to go from Optus to then HBF almost in the same you could almost have it in the same week. Realistically you could have one game on Sunday the six o' clock game which is 4pm WA time. And then the. Then the second game could be like not on a Thursday but on a Friday. It could be the 8:00 o' clock game which is actually 6:00pm local time. And. And I reckon that really. That marries in really well.
Traveling fans can stay there the whole week and can experience for a holiday.
[00:18:23] Speaker E: Go see wa, you know, like.
[00:18:26] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:18:26] Speaker E: Down Margaret river. Have a surf, go to Cottesloe, Scarborough, you know, just check in the sights and yeah, I reckon it'd be great.
[00:18:35] Speaker D: Yeah.
Yeah. Fantastic idea from your fantastic mind, mate. That. That's a really good one for sure.
[00:18:43] Speaker E: What's left of it,
[00:18:47] Speaker D: mate. Another bit of news. The Bear's got a sternum. A jersey Sterner placed sponsor XFM, a logistics company based in WA.
So for those.
Yep, yep. It's from Prepared Training. Shout out to Prepare Training for the North City Bears are a very good company but yes, XFM so excited to have them on board. Welcome to the Bears family, guys. And that might be all the sponsors for the jersey now. I think I. I think it's full. I think we've got. Yeah.
Sleeves main one which is cash converters.
Atlas Building.
McDonald's are there as well. I know they're on the shorts. I think that's it. I think, you know, there might not be much purchase area.
[00:19:42] Speaker E: Yes.
[00:19:43] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:19:43] Speaker E: McDonald's on the bum area.
[00:19:48] Speaker D: Yeah. The Golden Arch as well. And truly the ladies will be tackling Scott Sargson once he leaves the field. 100.
Yeah.
But yeah, so fantastic. Fantastic from the Bears.
[00:20:07] Speaker E: Oh, she heard me.
[00:20:10] Speaker D: Fantastic. From best commercial team to. To nab that. I think that's all the sponsors on the shorts and jerseys. If it isn't there's more purchase area. Hope more companies get on board. We'd love to bring them into the family.
One other bit of news that's come out and I think we're actually the first channel to speak about this. We spoke about this like a month ago. Is the big H Rama how had the game of his life on the weekend. He was definitely the man of the match I thought in the Titans game for sure. He's now. He's now finally like the Rock. Finally.
He's been reported on in media channels as the Bears looking at him. Some. Some reports saying he's actually come very close to signing.
We don't know if he's actually going to come or not because he's getting a start now at the time Tiden's doing all right but for those that don't know, if you haven't seen him. He's. He's a very good ball runner. He's very strong, powerful like a younger big Italica. Really if I had to compare him.
[00:21:16] Speaker E: Yeah, well, he's only 21, Johnny. And like he's 6 foot 3 and 107 kilos. So he's. He's not little.
[00:21:26] Speaker D: Yeah, exactly. So look, hopefully this pans out.
I would love to see a young second role like that come over. I think if he does, he'd probably almost have to start to get him over because he's starting at the Titans and then how that looks with C and Talai, I'm not sure. But it is what it is.
We're building for the future and future success.
Toddy, do you want to run us through the Super League results over in the.
[00:21:53] Speaker E: Yes, the Super League results. Let's have a look.
Okay. So the Leeds Rhinos, they got up 26 over the Warrington Wolves 22.
We have three players the Bears do with Leeds Rhinos. I have James McDonald, the second rower. Mikolaj Oled Ski, the Polish prop, he came off the bench in this game. And our center, our very first signing actually the Perth Bears, Harry Newman, he was dropped for this game so. And he was replaced by Jack Bird who got the winning try. So I'm not sure what's going on there. We'll have to see what the lineups are for this week. Coming up, the Catalan's Dragons, they went down to Hull fc. They had a good win last week over Hull KR who over world Champions.
They beat the Broncos and yeah, they had a good win over them. And then this week I came up against Hull FC. Hull FC actually led pretty sure it was 22 to nil at one stage.
And then the Dragons came back and ended up losing 24 to 20. So that was a good comeback by them. Toby Sexton kicked two goals and Isaac, I said I can never save this.
[00:23:18] Speaker D: Yeah, yeah. You were so close brother then.
[00:23:21] Speaker E: Yeah, but, but I've been practicing that all day. I.
Of course I botched it but anyway, okay. And in the other result with in champ, it's called the Championship League over there and I think it's like the. The equivalent to like the New South Wales couple Queensland cup to the nrl like it is here under Super League and in that in the London Broncos they're just destroying that competition. They've had seven from seven wins.
They're like on points differential. They're 341 points clear of the next team and they're just Destroying everyone.
They won on the weekend 40 to 12 against the Bailey Bulldogs.
Two of our signings. Luke Smith is from. Originally from the Bulldogs. He's. It was his birthday. He scored two tries, so shout out to him. And Amali Bitigani from the Cowboys, he.
He hasn't. He's been off injured, I think. I think that was his first game back for a while and he played on the weekend as well. So. Yeah, so they played really well. There's 20 teams in that competition, believe it or not.
[00:24:31] Speaker D: Yeah, yeah. I think it's not. I think some of them have gone to liquidation. One or two of them have already folded this season.
The English game's going through this transformative period. NRL potentially buying them out. London Broncos doesn't surprise me. They're doing well.
That points differential, that's. That's amazing. For how many rounds they've actually played, they must be averaging at least 40 points a game.
[00:24:56] Speaker E: Well, last week I got up 60. I think it was 66.
[00:25:00] Speaker D: Yeah.
Yeah.
For our listeners and viewers, legend player Darren Lockyer part owns our team and that team's been built off very good players that couldn't break through the NRL but have a lot of talent like bear signings Luke Smith and Amali Bitagani. But they also have about six or
[00:25:22] Speaker E: seven Hunters players in there as well.
So yeah, they actually were prepared to go into the Super League this year but when they announced for teams like I think teams like York and that beat just beat them out, pretty sure. So they already. That's why they got the squad they've got and.
Yeah, what's going to happen? The NRL go through and buy them out or you know, because the NRL I've heard have planned to have 10 teams in that competition. So it'll be interesting.
[00:26:03] Speaker D: We'll keep an eye on that.
Moving on to segment three, Cub Watch.
Toddy. How did. There wasn't many games this weekend, so if you want to run through all of them, including the Queensland Rugby league teams after the New South Wales Rugby league teams, please do.
But it looks like we were pretty victorious across the board.
[00:26:24] Speaker E: Yeah, well, the Bears junior Pathways of North Sydney, they all had a buy on the weekend so they didn't take part in any games.
New South Wales cup they got up over the St. George Dragons 20, North City Bears 26, the George Dragons 14.
Yeah, that was a good game. The Bears really exciting and good in defense and they're really putting it together and it's, you know, like the good thing I like about it this year is the team that's named virtually on Tuesday night is a truck team that takes a field on Saturday. Whereas last season when and the seasons before, like last two seasons we were aligned with a Melbourne storm. And before that's you know, the Roosters and then South Sydney like but you always got to Saturday and there was like say four or five players dropped and the NRL players not being used came into the team and about an hour before kickoff.
And yeah, this year we haven't got that because you know we're on our own with no feeder club this year. And yes I have a team that gets named on Tuesday night is a team virtually that runs out on Saturday unless there's any, unless there's injury. So I think you know it's a bit of stabilization in the team. And yeah they're, they're going well. So they might catch a few of them players might catch the eye of big Mal and Dane Campbell and David Sharp. You never know. And in the Queensland Cup.
Yeah up in Queensland this week the Harvey Norman under 19 girls they had a good semi final win over winner Manly seagulls. That was 2812. So they go through to the grand final against south slogan magpies on the 11th of April in two weeks.
So shout out to them. Well done.
The boys Malmeninga side they had a narrow loss in a high scoring game to Norse devils that was 42 32.
And in the host plus Queensland cup the Tigers got up there it was 20.
Let me say it was 22 to 12 over Devils as well. So yeah they went really well. So good results there by the Tigers and the girls getting through to that grand final.
You know I think the Malmeninga Cup I think that might finish this weekend. I'm not sure and I. I know the North Sydney side of things. They wrap up their competitions this week with round nine in their various competitions of the viola. Tasha Gale, Harold Mats and the SG ball competitions. And in the, in the games this coming week we've got the Malmeninga under 19s. Their last game they will play the Western Clydesdales.
[00:29:27] Speaker D: Yep.
[00:29:29] Speaker E: In the news Queensland cup the Tigers take on the Papua New guinea hunt.
And in the New South Wales cup the Bears they got our.
Let me have a look.
[00:29:49] Speaker D: Manly.
[00:29:51] Speaker E: Yeah, the Newcastle Knights in the juniors. So that's, that's the last round of the juniors. So they play the Newcastle Knights.
But that's out at Kent Hurst Hills Grammar. And in the New South Wales cup the Bears have Manly Moringa. So the arch enemy. So that's out at Lionel Watts Park, French's Forest. So. So Bears fans, if you're around, go see that. It'll be. That'll be good.
[00:30:16] Speaker D: Yep.
For the Queensland viewers, the NRL Q series kicks off this weekend as well.
So there will be games being played before the the NRL games. For those that don't know, that's an under 20s series. So a lot of the Malinga guys, once they conclude their series season will move up as long as they're contracted to, you know, either the Broncos, Titans, Dolphins or Cowboys. That's also the, the tournament that potentially the Perth Bears will be entering an under 20s team in a couple of years. Same with the the Chiefs. So that's one to keep an eye on.
So yeah, exciting stuff, Toddy. We'll move to the Bear Pit trivia this. This week I thought we'd go back to the Bears and our home away from home.
So a little bit of backstory for those people that don't know the Bears are likely going to be playing. Well, definitely one, but maybe two games and one of them could be a trial as a home game in Sydney and obviously North Sydney Oval potentially. But there's cricket up until April through the summer, so it's not really feasible to play a game there before April. The other stadiums for the home being kicked around is Allianz and Gosford, the old Blue Tongue. Now, just as a footnote, North Sydney Bears were originally going to relocate to the Central coast and they were going to be based out of Gosford. I believe they actually poured some of the their own finances into the old Gosford Stadium, a percentage of it.
Weather came, it delayed the project.
Then the NRL decided to bastardize the competition and rationalize it with this stupid criteria.
Bears didn't meet the criteria because they technically had no home ground because their home ground was getting built and they ended up merging with the Manly Sea Pigeons.
Anyways, we never got a chance to play at Gosford.
For those that also don't know, Toddy is from the Central coast. So Gosford is his local stadium.
I'll go to you, Toddy. Should the two home games, if one's a trial and one's a regular season, where should they be played? And would you be playing at least one of them in Gosford?
[00:32:52] Speaker E: Yes, I'd certainly look at Gosford. I, I have a feeling, you know, because the Roosters have taken over the Central Coast Juniors and everything like that, I have a feeling that when the Bears do play the Roosters, it probably will be up here at Gosford, you know, I. I just have a feeling that'll be the go.
As for. Yeah, I think maybe alliance. I don't think North. North Sydney Oval, they, you know, it's just not up to NRL standard. You know, it's not.
You know, I love going there, I love the oval, but it's just not up to holding a packed house. And I think for their first game back in Sydney, it's going to need a big stadium. So, yeah, yeah, I'd say alliance. If. If not alliance, then you're definitely up here at Central coast. So.
[00:33:44] Speaker D: So yeah, yep, I agree with you. If the Roosters do take one of our home games to Gossa, that'd be terrific.
Well, one of their home games, I should say. Although I don't think they'll take their home games away. A team that might do it, it might be South Sydney because once their deal finishes with wa, a new deal commences with Arian, but they still have some games they need to play at a core.
But I think their deal overalls with New South Wales stadiums or stadiums, New South Wales venues or whatever it's called. So Gosford is part of that. So either way, let's get a game there and let's give back to the fans that spent hours, thousands of hours helping out multiple bids in the past and. And championing on the Bears to be on the Central coast. Not to be. We are now in Perth and that's our home. But it would be good just to give back to those fans and at least have a game there.
Stand aside. Segment 5, Timless Tuesday came out today.
Couple of big ins and outs. Bears contracted players also playing. Plus the games this weekend just on the Bears contracted play. Contracted players we discussed last week. Not many are getting minutes this this season so far or they're just not playing or they're injured.
So it's early rounds but ideally in the next month I would like to see more minutes in them.
Otherwise it could be a little bit of a concern heading into the off season if they're not really playing.
Also the exposure shout out to the Tigers though. I like what the Tigers are doing. Just throwing Lao Lily in there and just saying go for it. But I would have liked to see Chris Vayela at least play a couple of games. I don't know where, but surely he gets a run.
[00:35:49] Speaker E: He's on the wing this week for.
Yeah, he's on the wing this week for Newtown New South Wales Cup. I noticed. So.
[00:35:57] Speaker D: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:35:59] Speaker E: And I noticed Nick Meaney, he's in the centers this week for Melbourne.
[00:36:04] Speaker D: Yeah. So he's back. Yes.
Yeah.
Yeah. No, that's. That's good.
And I don't know if Sean Russell's playing wing or center this weekend. I think he's still in the centers, otherwise he would have been marking on LA Lily. That would have been pretty cool to see.
Couple of big ins.
Payne Haas comes back in for the Broncos. So.
Yeah. So all the Bronco supporters will be happy about that. I don't know how that shoulder injury that was reported to be potentially four weeks suddenly just became one week. That man must have, like awesome myostatin in his body to. To heal like that. He seems to do it every. Every injury seems to come back, like, at a fraction of the time. So, yeah. Amazing.
[00:36:50] Speaker E: And I know Manly.
With Manly, I noticed they got rid of Anthony Sebold, the board and, you know, they've got Kieran Foreign as the interim coach and he hasn't named Joey Walsh in the side this week, so that's interesting.
[00:37:12] Speaker D: Yeah.
Yeah. For those that can see down the bottom, the Barefax have a footy that they've released as a bit of merchandise. So drop in your questions and drop in your shirts with bare merchandise.
Extra brownie points. If you're from WA and you've got Bear apparel, the best questions will shoot over a ball to you guys. And if you have an awesome jersey photo as well, especially if you can get anyone in wa, go to HBF park, actually, take a couple of photos with some beer with some Bear jerseys or Bear shirts.
It could be the Perth Bears official merchandise shirt that came. They came out not that long ago.
Take some photos, send them in to us and you'll be in the running for some merchandise. So get on it.
[00:38:11] Speaker C: I was just telling Todd that the Perth Bears merch will also be available at the doubleheaders April 11.
So if you don't have merch, you can go get them there as well.
Hopefully they've got a lot. I know it's going to be packed and busy.
[00:38:26] Speaker D: Yeah. So from what I'm hearing, it'll go live on their website.
Maybe just before it. I'm not. I'm not 100 sure on that, but you'll. For fans that can't get to the game, you'll not miss out. There will be plenty.
It's just making sure you don't max out your credit cards in one hit. Trying to get everything in one hit.
[00:38:50] Speaker C: Exactly.
Also just wanted to remind everybody that we'll be hitting. Well, me, because I'm in Perth. I'll be hitting the streets so probably as well we'll have some merch with us as well. So if you do see us pop in, we'll say hi, maybe ask some questions and you get a ball in return. We'll see what happens.
[00:39:10] Speaker D: Fantastic.
Fantastic. We definitely look forward to that. We'll get a couple of social media videos and photos. We'll put them up. And.
Toddy, tell us about the games happening in round five.
[00:39:26] Speaker E: Okay. The games this week. I'll do the home team. First round five. So you got the Dolphins and Manly. So yeah, Kurt Donahue's back for man for Dolphin. Sorry. And yeah, Manley, they got their new coach. So be interesting to see how the Seagulls go there.
And South Sydney against the Dogs. I looked at the South Sydney lineup is very impressive this week. I think the only play I've noted is sort of out from what I saw was J. J Arrow. So yeah, sorry.
[00:40:04] Speaker D: K's as well.
[00:40:06] Speaker E: Yeah. Okay. Yeah, very strong team on paper but like so yeah they got the doggies.
The Panthers in the Storm.
That'll. That'll be. Should be a good game. A storm. Yeah.
Unfortunately with Tui being out, you know, I think he'll be out for a while.
Yeah. So horrible news there for what happened with him with the clot and the stroke. So terrible.
Then we got the Dragons and the Cowboys, Titans and the Broncos, Sharks and the warriors which should be a good game.
And what else? Knights, Raiders. That could be a very good game as well the way the Knights have been playing even though Dylan Brown and Kalyn Ponga are both out. Like it's.
Yeah. Like it'll be. That should be a good game. And then Eels and the Tigers which could also be a good game as well.
[00:41:05] Speaker D: Yeah. I agree with you about that ninth Raiders game that I don't know if the Raiders have played there since that maybe I'm wrong but I don't know if they've played at Newcastle since that finals game two was it two years ago.
You know the. The real crazy one.
That was an awesome game.
What are your standout games this weekend, Toddy? I know you mentioned a couple of them.
Any others?
[00:41:30] Speaker E: I think yeah, South Stogs that could be have a lot of potential.
Panther storm that's you know, a few weeks ago would have been raving about it. So you know what's. The storm had two losses in a row now. So I don't think Craig Bellamy will tolerate any more losses. So that has a potential to be the game of around and Sharks, Warriors the warriors have lost Mitch Barnett for I think a month for broken thumb. So he's just come back and he's out again. So yeah, Knights Raiders as I stated.
[00:42:12] Speaker D: So yeah I think the Eels and Tigers could be a smoky good game as well. They generally have a good Monday Easter Monday game. Hey yeah, a few players out though which, which kind of leads us into the next segue. Segment 6 the bad necessities for those that don't know, this is where we try to touch on rules, interpretations or general game plays or just how we see the game in general in a more I guess technical aspect. So today's topic is hip drop tackles and our interpretation. So best of luck to us to try and to try and explain this but we'll do our best. So what I think a hip drop interpretation is when he first came in is when you tackle around the legs but the attacker's the bull run. His momentum is stronger than your than your defensive powers to bring them down and they keep charging ahead and what happens is the defender loses their legs.
They kind of swing around the back of the the ball runner. They bring the, they bring the ball runner down like a line brings down a buffalo. Literally it's like that. And they put all their weight because they're like carouseling. All their weight lands on the back of the bull runners legs around the calf knee area and then that has potential to cause some major lower leg injuries.
Syndomosis acls.
We've literally seen them. In the last fortnight the Eels have been on the receiving end of two hip drop tackles.
Now the interpretation used to be more one on one so there's always mitigating circumstances with tackles but used to be more one on one. It's one man that swings around and he just loses control of the tackle and he gets basically dragged like a trailer that just flings off and this guy smacked to the back of the player.
Over the fortnight we've seen three hip drop tackles. One by the Dogs, one by the Dragons and one by the Panthers.
The the result is the Dogs player got a fine. The Panthers player got a week, the Dragons player got four weeks.
I think injury is taken into consideration. It has too because the the Knights player that the Dogs play did the hip drop wasn't really hurt. The Eels player Iongi that Mitch Kenny did to him, he's out for eight weeks with syndomosis I believe. And then Hopgood just terrible. That got done by Ryan Couchman. He's out for the season with an acl.
Can you make sense of any of that toddy. Like they looked exactly the same to me. Like on the naked eye all three hip drops looked exactly the same.
Do you think it's being interpreted and ruled fairly based on the penalties and the randomness of it?
[00:45:28] Speaker E: I didn't think much of Mitch Kenny's, I have to admit. But in saying that, you know, I think they are taking injuries into consideration and yeah, they, I think they definitely are taking injuries into consideration when you look at the penalties. So yeah, but I don't know how, you know, like it's hard like you've got a player running at your steps, you've, you've braced yourself, you try to hold on and as you said, Johnny, you just end up like a, for material on the end of a plumber's truck, you know, like just floating and you come down and you, you know, you land on the back of their legs. Like it's, it's all, it's, you know, it's an accident.
But you know, I think players could, of course they're trying for that ball and all tackle and they're trying to wrap the chest up and that, you know, like if in, in the days past you always had that one play around the legs but now they're trying to cover that offload. So yeah, you got players just swinging and the game so fast now. Fatigue.
Yeah, we're going to see more of them unfortunately. But yeah, what do you do?
[00:46:43] Speaker D: Yeah, it's almost, it's almost eliminating the one on one tackle if you're not dead set square on. Because usually the hip drops happen in a one on one situation where the ball runner has sort of passed you a bit so you're hitting him more from the side back, back to the back to the side rather than front on. And I agree with you with Mitch Kenny's.
He never lost his legs to me. His legs were always planted. He was just in a weird like position.
Whereas Couchman I thought lost one of his legs, if that makes sense. But the other one looks still pretty planted to me and I think that's why it was so bad on Hopgood because, because he was half planted. Half. Not where I think the, the, the, the worst, the worst one by interpretation, not injury take injury aside, was actually the dog's one. He did lose his legs completely. He, he swung around like he was at the, at the Easter show on a carousel. Like that was the worst one and that's the one they got the least penalty. So for our viewers that, that's our take on it.
You're probably none the wiser because we aren't. So we'll see what happens moving forward, mate.
[00:48:02] Speaker E: You just imagine what goes through that player's head as he's, as he's gone to tackle him and he swings around. He knows he's going to come down on the back of a leg like go and let that player keep running.
[00:48:15] Speaker D: And it's split second, you know, it's split second stuff.
[00:48:20] Speaker E: That's right.
[00:48:21] Speaker D: You know, some of these, some of these penalties are worse than a guy that shoots out of the line and clock some guy in a one on one front on head high, you know, So I don't know. I don't know. We'll, we'll never really know. I think so.
It is what it is.
Just to wrap it up guys and we'll bring Roger back in because we got a bit to go through in segment seven, the bear attractions, Rosie and Tidy. I've done plenty of, plenty of talking. Can you let us know what's happening in the coming weeks, what's happening this weekend and just plug the episodes. Already done, guys.
[00:49:04] Speaker C: Yep. I can do a few of my little announcements I have and then Todd can do his announcements. So my announcements are the cheerleading that is happening.
13th of April is the first audition day.
I'm so excited. Today I was planning some dances with my friends. Some choreography is getting made.
Uniforms have come and they look amazing. So we'll be doing some content shooting and that as well. So you can take a look at what you will be wearing.
Might have to send some over to you guys to wear as well. Be part of the team.
And then what else do we have? We have Mark Guyer coming in early April. Not too sure when yet but keep a lookout for that one.
The double header, the NRL April 11.
So I don't know if the tickets are sold out yet but when I looked most of them were sold out. So you might have to go check the website.
And we want to thank our followers on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. We're accumulating nearly 2,000 followers on Facebook.
So we want to thank everybody who follows our page, sends in their photos and comments and likes. It helps. Every little thing helps. Even the donations to buy me a coffee do really, really well and I'll pass it on to Todd for the other updates.
[00:50:34] Speaker E: Okay. Yeah. If you want to catch any past episodes of A Bare Facts, just get onto YouTube and you know we've had with John Saxon, the NREA CEO, past Bears Grace like Mark Graham, Don McKinnon and Greg Florimo, Matty Fuller, Perth Reds Western Reds legend Peter Cummings, Cash converters Major.
Our major sponsor for Perth Bears, the CEO there.
So yeah, we've got some, we've had some good interviews and you know, like, yeah, catch up on them and have a look at them and they're in our past episodes as well.
Johnny,
[00:51:24] Speaker D: just one thing before we go into the tips for anyone that's traveling interstate to the double header next weekend, that's on Saturday.
If you are in Perth on the Friday the NRLWA kicks off their season. I think there might be two games in the same location but just double check the draw. I don't want to be talking nonsense out of my butt here but I think there is like a, like a, a proxy sort of double header. Go check it out. There's so much talent running around in the NRLWA and it'll be good to see what potential's out there in the state.
Good segue straight into the following day into the double header.
Toddy, how about the tips, mate?
[00:52:10] Speaker E: Okay, the tips. I don't know if I should even bother this week.
Just getting worse and worse.
So I'll, I'll save a home team first and then you guys can tip and I'll give you my dud tip at the end. Yeah, so yeah, first, first game we've got Dolphins. Manly.
[00:52:31] Speaker C: I'm going Dolphins with this one.
[00:52:35] Speaker D: It's okay.
[00:52:37] Speaker E: Dolphins, yeah, I'll go Dolphins. But you know, you always know if new teams, you know, when they get a new coach they get up sometimes. I wouldn't be surprised. But yeah, I gotta go Dolphins. Then we got South Sydney Rabidos and
[00:52:54] Speaker C: Canterbury Banks Town Bulldogs going Rabidos this one. Seeing how the Bulldogs lost last week. So yeah, Rabbits,
[00:53:05] Speaker D: yeah, I think I'm with you, Roshni. They've had two weeks to prepare for this. I'm gonna go, I'm gonna go Rabbits
[00:53:14] Speaker E: and I could do the trifecta for Rabbits. I'm going with Rabbits as well. So.
Yep. Okay, next game.
[00:53:27] Speaker C: Panthers for sure.
[00:53:30] Speaker D: I'm gonna go Panthers of course. But this is a danger game.
If they're going to drop any game in these early rounds it'll be this one, so. But yeah, I think they'll be too good.
[00:53:41] Speaker E: Okay, so Georgia, Laura Dragons in the North Queensland Cowboys.
[00:53:46] Speaker C: I'm doing cowboys for this one.
[00:53:52] Speaker D: Look, my head says Cowboys but they've got a dart in them and the Dragons are gonna have to win at some point. You'd think I'm, I'm gonna go Cowboys but This would not surprise me if the Dragons win this one at all. Where is it by the way?
It's up Cogra.
[00:54:13] Speaker E: Yeah, I'm not sure if it's a Cogger or a Wollongong. I haven't really looked into it that closely, but yeah, I'm gonna go Cowboys. I don't care where it's at. Flanagan's out and Dolph the Sorry. The Dragons are terrible. Last week, Gold Coast Titans and the Brisbane Broncos.
[00:54:32] Speaker C: I'm going to Rosie with this one
[00:54:33] Speaker E: because we know who she's gonna go for. So. Yeah, Rosney.
[00:54:39] Speaker C: Yeah, no, I'm going the Broncos.
[00:54:44] Speaker D: Yeah. Look, I think the Broncos will win, but if this, if this is like any of the previous Titans Broncos games last couple of years, this will be a game where Titans will get up to like a 24 point lead and then end up losing. Because that seems what happens with these two teams. Titans end up getting to this massive lead and, and can I just quickly tell you a funny story about these two teams playing? It happened a few years ago. I was at a pub and I was watching these two teams playing and there was this guy, Matt, Titans fan.
And the Titans were up by this quite a score at halftime and he's like, bugger this, I'm gonna catch an Uber right now and go to the stadium and watch the Titans win.
So he did that and ended up losing.
And then last, the next time I saw him at the pub, he was like, yeah, I'm not doing that again. I was too drunk. I should have made it. You should have told me. You should have stopped me.
No, you're right.
[00:55:50] Speaker C: Like come back.
[00:55:52] Speaker E: That's a great story.
Okay, next game. Oh, did we do our tips? Yeah, we all did. Broncos. Did we?
Yeah, yeah, I'm doing Broncos.
Okay, next game, Sharks versus Warriors.
[00:56:11] Speaker C: I'm going warriors for this one.
[00:56:18] Speaker E: Johnny.
[00:56:19] Speaker D: Man, I don't, I don't know. I, I'm actually looking at the screen, I'm looking at the lineups. I don't know. I, I want to say Sharks, but I don't know because the warriors have a half decent record at Shark Park.
I think they beat him with 11 men.
[00:56:35] Speaker E: You're getting squares.
[00:56:39] Speaker D: Yeah, I'll go Sharks.
[00:56:42] Speaker E: Oh, okay, yeah, I'm gonna, I'll go Sharks, but I'm not confident. We've had like you, Johnny, like, yeah, the Warriors. I don't know.
[00:56:50] Speaker D: Like didn't warriors beat him with 11 men? Didn't worry. His beat the Sharks a few years ago with 11 men for like Most of the game.
Yeah. I just don't know the Sharks.
[00:57:04] Speaker E: Okay. Next game just as hard, I think. Newcastle Knights versus Camber Raiders.
[00:57:10] Speaker C: I'm going Knights on this one just because I don't really know who to pick for this one. So Knights.
[00:57:18] Speaker D: I'm picking Ricky Stewart. It's not even about the teens. It's about how angry Ricky Stewart would have been during the week. And I think that's the reason that the Raiders win is just purely because he would have been shouting and spitting everywhere.
[00:57:33] Speaker E: So yeah, I'm gonna go Raiders. I'm not very confident with that tip. And I is Phoenix Avatar Crossland playing with that new nose job he got.
That was the worst broken nose I've seen since Ferguson.
Phoenix.
Hope you got a girlfriend, Phoenix. That's all I can say.
That was a shocker.
[00:58:07] Speaker C: It looked horrible. Oh my gosh.
[00:58:10] Speaker E: Yeah, it was bad when it looked like a blue Avatar guy. Jakey.
[00:58:16] Speaker D: Right.
[00:58:18] Speaker E: Yeah, I've seen some. I've seen some funny things on Facebook this week with that. It's been good.
And yeah, Paul. Bugger. And then the last game, the Par Eels against the West Tigers.
[00:58:33] Speaker C: I'm going Tigers even though they didn't do too well. But I'm going Tigers.
[00:58:40] Speaker D: Yeah. I think the Tigers will get. Will get up.
[00:58:44] Speaker E: Yeah. I think the targets, I'm like, yeah, as you can see, I've written down, I've got.
I've got Capitals with who I've tipped and I've done the heels here. But I think I'm going Tigers now.
So.
[00:58:58] Speaker D: Yeah, a Young is such a big out like. A Young. He's a massive out for Eels.
[00:59:06] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:59:07] Speaker D: Because he does so much of that work. I don't know if Joe Papali does a fraction of the work Ayongi does. So.
But we'll see.
[00:59:17] Speaker E: We'll see for sure.
[00:59:19] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:59:19] Speaker C: Hopefully we do a little better this
[00:59:21] Speaker E: week and the Roosters have got to buy. So yeah, Roosters can just sit back and take it easy and get ready
[00:59:29] Speaker D: for go to the Easter show. Go get some show.
Now. Awesome, guys.
[00:59:39] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:59:39] Speaker D: And shout out to the wonderful wizard of Oz, Paul from behind the curtain. Putting everything amazingly together, setting up the merchandise again.
Throw in your questions and we actually had a question come in today. It was more a statement from John Johnson.
Yeah, he said something about his son being in the Perth Bears Academy.
[01:00:06] Speaker E: Yeah, that's right. Yeah. I found it on. I found it on Facebook today. So I posted it on the Perth Bear supporters page and yeah, good on him. Congratulations.
[01:00:19] Speaker D: Yeah, you should be very Proud John Johnson. That's. That's an amazing accomplishment and we can't wait to see the young fella rocking the red and black in Perth in a couple of years.
Awesome, guys.
[01:00:32] Speaker E: That's right.
[01:00:33] Speaker D: Thank. Thank you to everyone for tuning in. Thank you to our wonderful host Rosni and Todd. Thank you to Paul.
Anything.
[01:00:42] Speaker C: Thank you.
So late over there.
Late at night, isn't it?
[01:00:48] Speaker D: Won't be as late next week.
[01:00:51] Speaker E: Right on 10:30. So I'm looking forward to this Sunday. Is it Saturday night? Sunday morning we've got to wind our clocks back so.
[01:00:57] Speaker C: Oh yeah. Don't you my good.
[01:01:00] Speaker D: We don't know our cows don't like daylight savings, mate. They don't produce milk. That's why we don't have it.
[01:01:06] Speaker E: Yeah, definitely. So yeah, it'll be. Yeah, we'll have more spark to us next week, Johnny.
[01:01:13] Speaker D: I look forward to it, guys. Well, have a wonderful evening. Have a wonderful.
[01:01:17] Speaker E: I noticed these, these are still arriving for people's. For badges. So that's exciting. I like seeing everyone post their pictures and although they're all the same, but it's good just seeing the Perth Bears logo getting out there and the merchandise and you know, like in two weeks at the double header would be good when more merchandise comes through. And apparently at HBF park for the Melbourne Storm Manly Seagulls, we'll have our.
Yeah. Foundation jersey reveal. So looking forward to that.
[01:01:55] Speaker D: Yeah. And like we said, anyone that takes photos of themselves wearing jerseys or Perth Bears merchandise from New Balance or whatever, go out to Optus, take a photo in the front, get your artistic juices going. Take something really cool, get a cap, get the pins, whatever it is, make it really flary, really awesome. Send it into us because we want to see. Send you guys merchandise for you sending us stuff. But you need to send us this great stuff first. So get on it. And thanks again.
[01:02:28] Speaker C: And just a quick notice, John Johnson has won the rugby ball from the. From the Barefax tonight.
So we'll be sending that over to him as soon as possible for his amazing.
So congratulations to John.
Anyways, we'll see you all next week.
[01:02:50] Speaker E: Okay. Go to Bears. Take care, guys. Thanks.
